Spectroscopic Studies on Electronic Ferroelectricity in Organic Conductors

چکیده

Organic conductors exhibit unusual physical properties due to the critical nature of valence electrons fluctuating under localizing and delocalizing regime. Recently, we discovered that an organic superconductor, α-(BEDT-TTF)2I3 [BEDTTTF: bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene], induces optical second-harmonic generation (SHG) along with charge-ordering driven by the repulsive electron-electron interactions.1) The SHG activity proves that the organic complex induces macroscopic electric polarization by the electronic transition. To understand the fundamental and functional properties of such “electronic ferroelectrics,” we are engaged in the material research and development of experimental technique dedicated for low-temperature SHG microscopy of tiny organic crystals.

Ferroelectricity and Charge Ordering in Quasi One-Dimensional Organic Conductors Springer series in Physics

The family of molecular conductors TMTTF/TMTSF-X demonstrates almost all known electronic phases in parallel with a set of weak structural modifications of ‘anion ordering’ and mysterious ‘structureless’ transitions. Only in early 2000’s their nature became elucidated by discoveries of a huge anomaly in the dielectric permittivity and by the NMR evidences for the charge ordering (disproportiona...

Electronic ferroelectricity in carbon-based systems: from reality of organic conductors to promises of polymers and graphene nano-ribbons

Ferroelectricity is a rising demand in fundamental and applied solid state physics. Ferroelectrics are used in microelectronics as active gate materials, in capacitors, electrooptical-acoustic modulators, etc. There is a particular demand for plastic ferroelectrics, e.g. as a sensor for acoustic imaging in medicine and beyond, in shapeable capacitors, etc. Microscopic mechanisms of ferroelectri...

Multiferroicity in an organic charge-transfer salt that is suggestive of electric-dipole-driven magnetism.

Multiferroics, showing simultaneous ordering of electrical and magnetic degrees of freedom, are remarkable materials as seen from both the academic and technological points of view. A prominent mechanism of multiferroicity is the spin-driven ferroelectricity, often found in frustrated antiferromagnets with helical spin order. There, as for conventional ferroelectrics, the electrical dipoles ari...

First-principles electronic-band calculations on organic conductors.

Predicting electronic-band structures is a key issue in understanding the properties of materials or in materials design. In this review article, application examples of first-principles calculations, which are not based on adjustable empirical parameters, to study electronic structures of organic conductors are described.
